Through the “2020 Garden initiative,” students were able to learn food sustainability skills, social skills, and confidence. Participants learned how to plant and maintain a garden from teachings learned from the FNRAEC.
Kahnawake Collective Impact
The Initiative taught students and community members the traditional ways of planting and the importance of growing one’s own food. Along with the teachings, dozens of home gardens were made throughout Kahnawake in an effort to bring back self sustainability.
2019 Presidents Cup
The 2019 initiative also helped in merchandise and programming. Funds also aided in the Astroturf which gave the community a professional playing surface for years to come.
K103.7 FM
In 2019, K103.7’s “Modernization initiative” was approved which helped in upgrading sound equipment and providing strong music library software. The initiative hired an archivist who sorted each file and categorized songs for the programming.
KORLCC
The KORLCC was created to lead and support all Kahnawa’kehró:non to practice maintain and respect the Kanien’keha language, beliefs and values. In 2019, the initiative also aided in planning professional exhibitions catering to local and international visitors.
Kahnawake Library
The Strategic Development Coordinator also helped staff show how to obtain and secure funding. The initiative allowed the library in obtaining a cataloging program to help with archiving and organizing books.
